Carlisle C.A.R.E.S. is hosting its first GOLF BALL DROP on Oct. 10 at Mayapple Golf Course in South Middleton Township!

A golf ball drop works like this:

Numbered tickets are sold to correspond with numbered golf balls. (The buyer of the ticket does not receive a golf ball, but a ticket with a number on it).

The numbered golf balls (1,000 of them!) will be loaded onto a fire company ladder truck and dropped onto a hole at the golf course. The ball in or closest to the hole wins $2,000. The ball furthest from the hole will earn $100. Other non-cash prizes will be awarded.

Tickets are $20 per ball and are on sale NOW at Carlisle C.A.R.E.S., 50 W. Penn St., Carlisle.

Only 1,000 golf balls will be sold, so there is a 1 in 1,000 chance to win $2,000! That's WAY better than the lottery or horse races or slot machine odds!

You do NOT need to be present at the ball drop to win the prize.

Who we are:

Carlisle Combined Area Resources for Emergency Shelter (C.A.R.E.S.) provides shelter when no other shelter can be found to the homeless in Cumberland County, Pa.

What we do:

Our mission is to provide shelter to homeless single adults and homeless families, as well as offer them the resources needed to stay healthy, get housing, find a job, etc.

Where we are:

Our shelter is not in one set location, but rather rotates monthly through a dozen area churches. Our Resource Center is located at 50 West Penn St., Carlisle, Pa.

Why are we here?:

Homelessness is a growing problem in Cumberland County. Almost no community has enough shelter to fill even the existing need let alone tomorrow's need. Since it’s inception in 2004, Carlisle C.A.R.E.S. has been meeting the needs of the homeless who have nowhere else to go. In 2004, we provided a warm, safe place to sleep to 28 individuals. In 2005, that number grew to 78; in 2006, we housed 225 homeless; in 2007, 298 individuals; in 2008 434 persons were given a place to sleep; and in 2009, we hosted more than 509 guests.

How you can help:

We rely on volunteers to help us! Opportunities are available at the overnight shelter and at the Resource Center. Free training is provided. We also gratefully accept monetary donations to support our programs. We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit.
